Music at The Gateway

“Music at The Gateway” is the name of the current series of concerts at The Gateway in Shrewsbury, promoted by Shrewsbury and District Arts Association (SADAA), which was founded more than fifty years ago by Clive and Joan Tate to promote art, in particular music and the visual arts.
SADAA’s concerts were run for many years by Richard White and later by Muriel Williamson, who sadly died in 2021. After the long Covid-enforced break, cellist, Ruth Henley, organised a successful series of concerts in the spring and summer of 2023. This was followed by an even more successful season of concerts at The Gateway in Shrewsbury, running from October 2023 to July 2024. As we embark on the 2024 - 2025 series we hope that you will find plenty to enjoy, brought to you by quality professional performers from London and Birmingham, as well as from Shropshire. New for this season is the 'New Generation Platform' which this year features Ben Richards, cello and Edward Harris-Brown, piano, both of them from Shrewsbury. We hope there is something for everyone, so check out the concerts page to see what's on offer. We hope to see you there!
Ruth graduated from the Birmingham School of Music, with diplomas in Teaching, Performance and Recital. Whilst there, she was the winner of several prizes, including the Chamber Music prize on two occasions. Further study followed at the Royal Academy of Music and later a return to the Birmingham Conservatoire led to a post-graduate Performance Diploma. She is a member of the Jarualda Quartet.”
